1. Rabdentse Ruins
Rabdentse Ruins is one of the major historical monuments of Sikkim, located in the city of Pelling in West Sikkim. Rabdentse was the second capital of the former Kingdom of Sikkim from 1670 to 1814. It was destroyed after the Nepalese invasion in the 18th century. The spot has stunning perspectives inundated with history all around. The monastery was founded by Wangchuk Dorje, 9th Karmapa Lama in the 16th century, Rumtek Monastery is the seat of the Karmapa Lama, It was the main seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage for a while. In 1959 after fleeing Tibet, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje arrived in Sikkim and discovered that this place was in ruins. He was given the proposal of many other sites, but he decided to rebuild Rumtek as this site possessed many sacred qualities and historical importance.
